AM Technical Solutions (AM) takes a collaborative approach to Architectural and Engineering design projects for our clients. By incorporating clients into projects before the work begins, we can achieve alignment around the end goal, helping reduce wasted time and effort.
One of the tools we utilize to support collaboration is Design on Demand. This 3-dimensional platform was developed to allow our team to bring additional value to the front-end design process by helping our clients see the expected finished product and provide us with feedback before the work begins.
Our Architectural and Engineering teams primarily use Design on Demand to support concepts for their functional needs to inform the front-end design and construction projects of their facilities. The platform helps facilitate conversations with clients in real time and supports our “first time right” approach to project delivery so that we can deliver on all three (cost, time, and quality).
Using Design on Demand to Streamline Project Work
Historically, architectural and engineering design projects required multiple iterations to make it through the front-end design process. Discussions were held regarding ideas, written user requirements, and limited 2-dimensional drawings. We found that this process stream resulted in wasted effort trying to create engagement around the end goal of the project.
Using the Design on Demand platform creates a more streamlined and effective process that enables us to move efficiently from front-end conceptual design into detailed design. We can address issues on the front end to reduce rework during the actual project work.
The platform is intended to bring the project to life at the earliest stage of discussions, allowing our clients to walk through a 3-D version of the internal heart of their facility. By previewing the end user’s facility before completion, we are able to gather input about the client’s true needs for the project so that we can execute the fit-out with precision.
There are clear benefits of taking this approach to high-tech construction projects:
- Reduced efforts to understand the functionality of the facility at the earliest stage of the concept.
- More effective detailed design, helping reduce schedule and cost issues.
- Better engagement from the client and end users who will use the facility.
- Reduced time to market utilizing the facility for its intended purpose.
“Design on Demand was developed from the perspective of our client to simplify collaboration and ensure we are all aligned before intensive project work begins,” says Dan Codi, AM Chief Operating Officer.
“For large-scale facility projects that require a significant cost investment, we are eager to use this platform to help our clients visualize the finished product before the end of the capital project lifecycle. It’s a transformative and valuable experience for clients.”
