Applied Mechanical’s own Austin Self finished the 2009 season by following up his Rock Island Grand Prix win with a place on the podium in the Las Vegas Kart Racing Super Nationals.
The Rock Island Grand Prix kart race, held annually on the downtown streets of Rock Island Illinois, is the nation’s largest go-kart street race with an excess of 20,00 fans in attendance for the 2 day event. Austin took home the coveted “Rock” trophy in the Tag Jr Class.
No less impressive was his podium finish at the Las Vegas Rio Casino in what is the largest international kart race. The field included 50 top drivers from around the world and was attended by some of racing’s top celebrates including Michael Schumacher and Dan Wheldon.
2010 should be a big year for Austin as he adds to his already considerable trophy collection, and makes his debut in stock car racing.
