In his first race back in Texas since the 2011 season, Austin Wayne Self delivered for his fans that have been awaiting his return to the Lone Star state.
“After spending all year racing NASCAR out of Charlotte, North Carolina, it sure feels good to be home,” says Austin. “I am glad we could pull off a win for our fans – especially the fans from central Texas that made the trip to Houston for the show. God really smiled down on us this weekend. The Sport Clips/Big Red Modified was pretty fast out of the box when we showed up for practice. Umscheid Racing and David did a great job with the set up, and the10 inch Goodyear tires did what we expected.”
“I have to thank Raymond De La Houssaye for having the confidence in me to put me in his car and to AM Technical Solutions who have been with me this entire season. Also, thanks to my close friend and hockey great Bobby Reynolds for hanging out with us, and to my man Brian for the hard work. We have two more races here in Texas before we have to head back to North Carolina for our final 2011 Late Model race. I hope we can pull off two more wins for our fans and sponsors.”
“We have been fast at this track in the past with the 15 car on 8 inch grooved Goodyear tires. But this was the first time we had to set the car up for 10 inch tires,” says Crew Chief, David Umscheid. “We’re pretty happy with the way the car worked. I don’t know if it was the fastest car out there tonight, but it was obviously fast enough to win. With what we learned here tonight with Austin, I think we can get it a little faster for the next race here in two weeks.”
“I’m just glad we had a chance to race with Austin again this year,” says Car Owner, Raymond De La Houssaye. “I built his first car when he started racing NASCAR Modifieds, and David and I have been with him ever since. He is a cool kid and we all like hanging out with him. Although, he does spend a lot of time texting or Tweeting or on Facebook. We are looking forward to the next couple of races with him and I believe we may be fielding a car for him again next season. We can’t wait.”
