AM Technical Solutions (AM) is supporting AVK, the largest and fastest‑growing supplier of innovative power solutions for data centres across the UK and Europe, on a landmark energy centre project in Dublin, Ireland.
As AI‑driven demand for compute accelerates, this site is deploying Europe’s first data centre microgrid to deliver highly reliable power while easing pressure on the public grid.
This project marks an important step in how critical power infrastructure is planned and delivered for high‑growth markets. Owners and operators are looking for ways to add capacity quickly, without compromising resilience or overburdening existing networks. Microgrids like this one will increasingly define what “good” looks like for next‑generation facilities.
AM is serving as commissioning authority (CxA) for the AVK energy centre, bringing experienced mechanical and electrical commissioning engineers to validate that systems perform as designed before critical loads go live.
The visibility of this project is already high. National and international coverage, including business reporting on the Dublin data centre market and industry analysis of Ireland’s AI‑driven data centre boom, underscores how closely regulators, utilities, and hyperscale customers are watching early microgrid deployments.
Our Data Centre Microgrid Commissioning Scope
To support the delivery of this innovative power solution, we are providing focused Level 3 (L3) commissioning support across key mechanical and electrical systems. The core elements of our scope included:
- Developing and refining mechanical L3 commissioning scripts led by an experienced mechanical lead.
- Deploying a pair of mechanical commissioning engineers on-site to execute L3 activities and achieve L3 green tags.
- Providing an electrical L3 commissioning engineer to support field verification and controls integration.
- Reviewing drawings and documentation to confirm that field conditions match design intent.
- Coordinating with AVK and project stakeholders to align test sequences and document results.
In addition to the defined scope, our team is helping AVK apply proven high‑tech commissioning practices to this first‑of‑its‑kind microgrid. That includes cross‑discipline coordination, risk‑based test planning, and using field‑verified performance data to build owner and regulatory confidence.
As AI workloads drive unprecedented demand for new data centres, this energy centre will influence how power infrastructure is planned and commissioned across the region. For AM, supporting AVK on this deployment is an opportunity to demonstrate how a disciplined CxA model can help integrators move faster without compromising safety, reliability, or quality.
This project is also a starting point. Europe will need many more advanced energy centres to keep pace with AI‑driven growth, and the AVK site represents the first wave of the change. By supporting this initial deployment, we are building the experience, tools, and commissioning playbooks that can be applied to future projects across the region.
“When you’re commissioning an innovative power solution at this scale, there is no room for guesswork,” says Stephen Poindexter, AM Project Executive. “Our job is to be the steady, technically fluent partner in the field capable of overseeing critical details, validating performance against design, and helping our clients reach their desired outcomes on projects that the entire market is watching.”
