Today, we are featuring Austin Sunshine Camps (ASC), a local organization in Central Texas that reaches into the community to provide access to the excitement of summer camp without the barrier of cost. Today, we will highlight how they are creating an environment where youth have a place to grow, connect, and explore.
How Austin Sunshine Camps Supports the Local Community
Austin Sunshine Camps has reached out to underserved youth in Central Texas for nearly 100 years, offering life-changing experiences free of charge. With a focus on children who qualify for free or reduced lunch, are in foster care, or are joining camp through a sibling connection, ASC truly plants the seeds of opportunity where they are needed most.
From the moment campers arrive, they’re immersed in experiences that help them build confidence, independence, and a sense of community. The programs are intentionally designed by age group and location to meet kids where they are developmentally and emotionally.
Whether it’s their first time away from home or they’re returning for a new challenge, every camper is supported by trained staff and enthusiastic college-aged volunteers who serve as mentors, role models, and friends. Here’s how the camp programs break down:
- Zilker Lodge (Ages 8–11): Located in Austin’s iconic Zilker Park, this 7-to-10-day summer camp includes outdoor games, arts and crafts, team-building, access to Barton Springs, and the beloved Carnival Night.
- Lake Travis Camp (Ages 12–15): Nestled in the Hill Country, this 10-day camp offers canoeing, high ropes courses, zip-lining, archery, and the epic Camp-a-Tition.
- First-Time Camper Programs: ASC also offers year-round introductory events to help new campers and families build trust and familiarity before the summer begins.
Regardless of the camp experience, ASC creates real, positive change by investing in children who often feel overlooked due to social status. The camp programs help local youth feel seen, heard, and encouraged, so that they can thrive well after their time with ASC.
Our company is proud to partner with ASC and support their mission of serving more kids in Central Texas for generations to come. We aim to help them plant more seeds, grow more roots, and expand the garden to serve more campers.
