AM Technical Solutions (AM) continues to deliver innovative solutions to our global clients, including introducing paperless digitized construction and commissioning. This effort helps simplify extremely complex processes for large-scale high-tech construction projects.
To highlight our work, we recently submitted our digital construction and commissioning process and associated software into the Irish Construction Excellence Awards (ICE Awards). The ICE Awards 2025 will be held on May 1st in Dublin, where we will be considered for the “Innovation in Construction” category.
Our submission was based on the work performed in three Life Science projects and one Semiconductor project. We partnered with EIDA, a leading construction management software platform, to collectively develop this paperless process that yielded exceptional results.
As we continue to expand our global footprint into Europe, it’s important for us to continue aligning with the values of our clients in the region. Find out how this collaborative project delivered tremendous savings for our clients, our people, and the environment.
Inside Our ICE Awards 2025 Submission
In today’s high-tech construction environment, construction projects are increasingly complex, time-consuming, and expensive as customers and manufacturers pursue custom facilities to meet their needs. An increase in construction complexity directly correlates with increased paperwork to remain compliant with regulations and increase traceability throughout the project.
The result of these necessary efforts leads to schedule delays and inefficiency due to the abundance of paperwork and documents, creating significant costs and potentially delaying time to market. It became clear to our company that we needed a robust paperless strategy to support project success.
To address this challenge, we partnered with EIDA to support the Commissioning and Qualification aspects of these Life Sciences and semiconductor projects.
Specifically, we identified the need to bring innovation in project delivery by removing the paper component from large projects, while planning and achieving early compliance and traceability to improve Cost, Quality, and Schedule.
Our solution was to develop a one-stop-shop database system for managing the flow of documentation on each project spanning 2018 to 2024. Consider the results of this streamlined, paperless system:
- Reduced project handover time and cost by approx. 20% while maintaining documentation compliance.
- Delivered a completely paperless semiconductor facility (12.4 million files with over 6 terabytes of data) that saved 30 million sheets of paper or 3,000 trees.
By embracing technology and eliminating the need for paper in large projects, we delivered high-quality results while minimizing waste and environmental impact. Now, we look forward to being considered for the most prestigious construction award in Ireland in recognition of our project work.
“Introducing paperless digitized construction and commissioning had a positive outcome on the cost and schedule factors that can be used to determine the success of a project,” says Ronan Downey, AM Project Manager. “We are proud of the collaboration between our company and EIDA to construct a semiconductor facility that was the first-ever in the world to be delivered completely paperless.”
