A powerful example comes from one of our employees, Gene Way, an electrical apprentice / IR Technician based in Oregon, whose passion for ministry and service continues to make an impact far beyond his day-to-day role.
Two years ago, Gene and his wife, Kara, traveled to India to volunteer at an orphanage serving children impacted by HIV/AIDS. Partnering with Orphan Outreach, the experience left a lasting impression, not only on the children they served but on Gene and Kara themselves.
In March 2026, they will return to India to continue building relationships, offer encouragement, and support the ongoing work at the local orphanage. Learn more about the powerful work they will be supporting.
Orphan Outreach Displays Powerful Care for Vulnerable Children
Orphan Outreach specifically supports Gan Sabra HIV Home and Community Outreach in Mizoram, India. Gan Sabra is a private Christian home that offers care for children of all ages living with HIV/AIDS, many of whom have lost parents or face significant social stigma.
The home provides a safe and loving family environment, meets basic needs such as housing, food, and education, and offers holistic care that includes medical support, emotional encouragement, and the fulfillment of spiritual needs with grace and love. This comprehensive approach offers long-term stability, allowing children to grow with dignity and hope.
In addition, Gan Sabra provides medical and nutritional support to vulnerable families impacted by HIV in the Aizawl area. The team offers training on both the causes and the treatment of HIV, as well as appropriate care of those affected by the virus.
The story of Gan Sabra has also been captured in an award-winning short documentary produced through Orphan Outreach. The film shares firsthand perspectives from the orphanage’s founder, Lucy, along with several of the children, offering an authentic look at daily life, challenges, and the lasting impact of consistent care and community involvement.
Mission teams like Gene and Kara’s play an important role in strengthening these efforts by offering a consistent presence, relational support, and encouragement to both the children and the local staff. Gene and Kara are deeply grateful for the prayers and support that make this mission possible and look forward to sharing stories from their upcoming trip.
