The U.S. semiconductor industry is being strengthened by companies investing in new manufacturing facilities in the U.S. We are proud to support one of the newest semiconductor fabrication facilities that will support the growth of our country’s production capabilities.
A major semi manufacturing company is building a leading-edge, high-capacity new greenfield semiconductor fab in the U.S. We have established a productive, long-term working relationship with the company that made us a natural fit to provide quality assurance services for the new facility.
The significance of the project is the magnitude of this facility and the need to construct with competitive quality and cost in mind. Our client will leverage the capabilities of our team and the historical lessons learned from our numerous other U.S. fab projects over the past two decades to successfully complete the facility.
Our Project Scope Supporting the Greenfield Semiconductor Fab
Our focus was to bring quality early in the process to help “build-in” versus simply “inspect” quality through working with and coaching the project stakeholders. We were awarded the following scope to support our client’s new U.S. facility.
- 3rd party quality assurance for key systems.
- Analytical testing for all MEP systems (Mechanical, Electrical, and Process).
- Systems turn-on and energization for all gas and chemical systems.
The project presents unique challenges for our customers because they are launching the facility in a new geographical location. We will be helping them overcome location-specific obstacles by executing our project scope through a “first time right” approach to help satisfy budget, timeline, and quality requirements.
Additionally, the general contractor responsible for building the facility has limited semiconductor experience. There is also a lack of experienced trades in the local semiconductor space available to support the project.
To help fill gaps in semiconductor experience and to execute our project scope, we will deploy construction quality subject matter experts (SMEs) to the project site. We selected SMEs with significant experience supporting similar scopes at the customer’s other global sites that we have supported in the past.
“We are eager to support the growth of the U.S. semiconductor industry. This is an excellent opportunity to lend our expertise to ensure that project goals are met according to the client’s expectations,” says Curt Gwilliam, SVP of Operations. “We look forward to implementing our 3rd party quality program that has become the standard across our client’s other sites across the U.S.”
