The AM Technical Solutions FEP late model Chevrolet and its driver, Austin Wayne Self, made their debut at the Thunderhill Raceway in Kyle, Texas last Saturday night. The 14 year old National Champion Kart Racer led for half the race, set the fast lap time, and finished third behind veteran stock car drivers 2-3 times his age with decades more experience; a fantastic debut.
The car, driver, and crew combination was the idea of Mary Ann Nauman, owner of Mann Racing Promotions. Ms. Nauman believed that she could place a National Champion Kart driver with an experienced stock car crew and deliver a winning team and fan favorite. She said, “Austin brings a completely different style of racing to oval track stock car racing. While, until last Saturday, he had no experience on oval tracks or in Stock Cars, racing Karts against the best drivers in the world make him a very competent competitor in any driving event.”
