The Austin Children’s Shelter broke ground for $12.9 million facility with eight buildings. During the event, Applied Mechanical affirmed its continued support of the Shelter with a special donation to the new facility. At present the shelter has been able to care for 30 children at a time – typically 300 children each year, but many needing help must be turned away. The new facilities will more than double that capacity to as many as 78 children at a time – nearly 600 children annually. Established in 1984, The Austin Children’s Shelter is an emergency shelter offering a safe haven for children from birth to 17 years of age who are removed from their homes due to life-threatening abuse or neglect. The children who come through their doors are traumatized, hurt, angry and despondent.
For more than 20 years, ACS has provided the high quality care and critical services that the children need to begin the healing process including individual and group therapy, medical and dental care, and educational assistance. The individual attention given to the needs of each child helps them to feel safe while re-building their self-esteem. The goal is to reduce the emotional trauma suffered by child victims of abuse and neglect and to lay a foundation of hope for a better future. For some time Applied Mechanical has been a regular donor to Austin Children’s Shelter and encourages its friends and employees to consider joining in the support of this worthy organization.
