The 2021 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series season marked the sixth full-time year of competition for Austin Wayne Self and fifth under the AM Racing banner. And by all measures, the year was a successful one.

Emerging from the 2020 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series season where the Coronavirus pandemic halted practice and qualifying, the sanctioning body stuck to the same routine for a majority of the 2021 season but for a few select events.
Under the leadership of crew chief Ryan Salomon, who joined the Statesville, N.C.-based team at the end of the 2020 season, the hard work and leadership under Salomon’s direction proved to be beneficial.
A Consistent Season of Racing for Austin Wayne Self
Throughout the season, Self aboard his No. 22 GO TEXAN | AM Technical Solutions Chevrolet Silverado remained one of the most consistent race trucks and teams on the race track.
In the 22 races in 2021, the team highlighted four top-10 finishes, including a season-best eighth-place run at Las Vegas (Nev.) Motor Speedway, and an average finish of 17.6.
In a series that began in February and saw the checkered flag conclude in early November, the Austin, Texas native completed all but 65 laps in the year with 2,907 of 2,972 laps run for a 97.8 lap completion.
Even though a sour engine hindered the team’s efforts and left them with a 26th place finish in the season finale at Phoenix (Ariz.) Raceway, Self and his AM Racing team ended the season ranked 14th overall in the driver championship standings and a respectable 15th in the owner championship standings.
The driver championship rundown was a second-best effort for Self as a driver and two positions higher than in 2020 when he placed 16th.
With 22 races complete, Self and his family-owned AM Racing team maneuvered four top-10s, nine top-15s, 15 top-20s, and 18 top-23 finishes.
“The 2021 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series season is one of the most competitive on record,” said Self. “I think we showed a lot of people what this AM Racing team is capable of and we’re determined to keep marching forward and look ahead to an even better season in 2022.”

- AM Racing finished a career-high 15th in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series owner championship standings.

- LiftKits4Less.com 200 at Darlington (S.C.) Raceway on May 7.
- Toyota 200 at World Wide Technology Raceway at Gateway on August 20.
- Victoria’s Voice Foundation 200 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on September 24.

Ricky Denny, Jr. in North Carolina
Ricky Denny, Jr. races small tracks in North Carolina. He is a long-time friend of our company, a supporter of AM Racing, and he has worked with a NASCAR wash crew for many years.
Recently, Denny found an AM Racing fire suit that he started wearing during his local races at the Tri-County Race Track. Now, he has won two races wearing the suit.
