AM Technical Solutions (AM) has built a highly capable roster of experts to handle the most complex semiconductor projects. One such project required the full cooperation of multiple teams to execute a capital project for a large semiconductor company.
Our client is being required to replace multiple water-cooled centrifugal chillers in phases to prevent disruptions to ongoing operations. The chiller replacement project at their facility required a qualified design consultant to safely and effectively create the master plan – inclusive of a construction phasing schedule – for all design phases.
The overlap in the project schedule between the Master Plan and Phase 1 design created an opportunity for our company to leverage available time to achieve greater efficiency in the project execution. Learn more about how we provided a master plan and design support for this multi-phase project.
Overcoming Key Hurdles in the Chiller Replacement Project
Our client’s semiconductor facility has a tight deadline to phase out their current chiller units. We took a master planning approach that included a phase-out strategy to accommodate breakdown maintenance by the stated deadline.
The progressive approach to phasing out the units was also necessary because the chiller plant must remain operable and unencumbered during all replacement efforts. Given that our client operates 24/7, 365 days a year, the development of the master plan required careful planning to ensure uninterrupted operations.
The construction process was meticulously designed to provide adequate time to avoid disruptions. This outcome was achieved through thorough due diligence and a commitment to sound design practices. We also incorporated data-driven practicality into the construction phasing plan to maintain redundancy requirements throughout the chiller replacement process.
Our specific scope of work includes the following:
- Master planning services: strategize how to replace the agreed-upon number of centrifugal chillers over an extended period of time.
- Construction phasing schedule: prioritize the chiller replacement based on the client’s critical metrics and operating parameters.
- Constructability: determine the appropriate construction approach to replace each unit, including any additional elements that need to be replaced.
- Phase 1 design of the master plan: include all necessary provisions and analysis to replace the first batch of chillers.
- Phase 2 master plan: provide a comprehensive overview of how to service the remaining chillers.
The chiller replacement project includes several milestones during the master plan design stages and construction execution. Our team will work closely with the client to ensure that all deliverables are met within the stated deadlines to keep the project on track toward completion.
“Our client is facing a considerable challenge to phase out the chillers in their semiconductor facility, and we are more than capable of helping our client satisfy the requirements,” says Dan Codi, AM Chief Operating Officer. “We are confident that our collaborative, first-time-right approach will enable us to execute the project scope on time, on budget, and of the highest quality.”
