When an animal health company is developing a new cGMP manufacturing facility, decisions made during preconstruction can directly affect the project’s cost, schedule, quality, and long-term operational performance.
AM Technical Solutions (AM) was recently brought into a new animal health manufacturing project to provide cleanroom design assist services, supporting the project’s design and construction teams during the preconstruction phase.
The facility supports the manufacturing of sterile products and oral solid dosage forms using closed-system operations, Intermediate Bulk Containers, and semi-automated processes designed to limit dust exposure and maintain product quality.
With deep experience in cleanroom construction, regulated Life Science environments, and integrated project delivery, our team helped incorporate constructability, quality, cost, and schedule considerations into the design before construction began.
Our Project Support Providing Cleanroom Design Assist Services
The project team needed experienced cleanroom specialists who could collaborate with its design and construction partners and identify potential challenges early in the design process.
Our specific scope called for:
- Collaboration with the design team to optimize system performance and constructability.
- Identification of value-engineering opportunities and cost-effective alternatives.
- Review of design documents to improve construction sequencing and reduce potential field issues.
- Participation in BIM coordination and clash-detection sessions.
- Support for budgeting and cost-control exercises throughout the design phases.
- Provide input into project schedules and evaluate opportunities for schedule compression.
- Support for the continued development of the project’s CQV and quality programs.
Our team also participated in weekly coordination meetings and biweekly collaborative planning sessions, working alongside the project stakeholders as the design progressed. This integrated approach allowed AM to provide cleanroom architectural input while helping the team evaluate materials, construction methods, and sequencing decisions before they affect work in the field.
AM’s BIM coordination support included reviewing clashes and evaluating how cleanroom architectural components interact with the broader project design. Our team also provided input into the master schedule to help align the project partners around critical milestones and completion requirements.
Because AM is already supporting development of the facility’s Commissioning, Qualification, and Validation program, our team could connect design-assist decisions with the project’s eventual turnover and commissioning requirements. This included helping to establish construction completion milestones, preparing for inspections and punch-list tracking, and supporting the transition of system documentation from construction to the CQV team.
